When it comes to building a career in radio broadcasting, you may think of an RJ, but there is much more to that. - Do your due diligence on smaller radio stations and try to intern there for a while
Nowadays most radio stations are owned by a major parent company. Know that the weaker the radio signal, the more the station is locally owned, means better the odds for learning the ropes here. If you are uncertain on how to search local radio stations, there are many tools available online to do your due diligence on. You must visit them in person and request them to let you intern there for a while to gain experience in all departments.

There is just a tad bit of a downside that unless you have are a part of the big shot media unions like Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), then your odds of getting in as an intern is limited. Even if you do, you may not work with the equipment at all, but a lot of administration tasks. Hence, you can add this as your experience and level yourself up in bigger markets.
- Be a volunteer at college radio
If not into internships, you can volunteer for your college radio. Here you can also get hands on experience in broadcasting like engineering, sportscasting, on air work, and looking after a department. Making a career in radio broadcasting is interesting.
